saturn petcare has been committed to protecting the environment for some time now. Part of the concept is to raise awareness among apprentices at an early stage, which is why the pet food experts recently conducted a greening event to support a pilot project entitled "Apprentices learning and promoting biodiversity at work."

The project was being carried out by BUND Friends of the Earth Germany, together with various environmentally-oriented companies. The goal was to set up a four-day workshop to familiarize apprentices with the topic of biodiversity and convey its relevance.

WORKSHOP ON BIODIVERSITY

The first day of the workshop addressed the most pressing questions: What causes biodiversity to disappear in so many places? Why is it that industrial parks sometimes become new refuges for wildlife? Once the answers were found, the apprentices were able to develop creative solutions on project days two and three. The focus: promotion of biodiversity by each individual as well as in the company as a whole. Over the course of this, the "saturn greencare" team developed a concept for greening the company's premises.

GREENING ACTION ON THE COMPANY PREMISES

However, the goal of the workshop was not only to come up with a theoretical idea, and so the concept was recently brought to life for the first time. In October, early-blooming regional flowers were planted in front of the entrance area, and a deadwood space was created that will now serve as a habitat for birds, hedgehogs, and insects, as well as for wild shrubs eventually. The project team also built a spiral herb garden on the terrace – as a symbol of biodiversity within and around saturn petcare.

GO-AHEAD FOR FURTHER PROJECTS

Apprentices, instructors, and project managers alike were all enthusiastic about the final result, and are now looking forward to seeing the planted flowers bloom and enjoying more creative projects in the future. Because one thing is certain: saturn petcare will implement many more projects to protect the environment. Together with the next generation of saturn petcare apprentices.
